MFA ThesisTwo | Azadeh Pirazimian: The Story of Tiles and Ropes In-Between / داستان سفال‌ها و طناب‌ها

The Story of Tiles and Ropes In-Between / داستان سفال‌ها و طناب‌ها moves through the fragile space of migration, where memory, material, and motion intertwine. It is about swinging: swinging between two roofs, swinging between two landscapes. It is about the fragility of a roof, the fragility of a memory. Suspended between Northern Iran and Canada, the work reflects gestures to find belonging—the stitching, the carrying, the quiet resistance of the body as it navigates cultural displacement.

MFA Thesis Two | Paige Smith: I Saw You in the Archive

I Saw You in the Archive is a multidisciplinary exhibition that reveals the history of eugenic practices in Kitchener-Waterloo in the mid 20th century, and questions how the framing of history impacts our personal understandings of each other’s identities. Mixing visuals associated with institutional archives and rubber factories, the artworks examine the former Kaufman Rubber Company and its owner A. R. Kaufman’s attempts to contain certain types of people, particularly those deemed ‘feeble-minded’

Cree Tylee: In any way I can

Cree Tylee is an interdisciplinary artist exploring themes of presence and absence investigated through the family archive. "In any way I can" explores the home as a site of memory, investigating loss and identity through material and spatial remembering. Drawing from a personal family archive, the work considers absence and presence, constructing a material dialogue between ‘then’ and ‘now’.

Xiaojing Yan: Under the Pines, Over the Clouds Exhibit

Under the Pines, Over the Clouds is rooted in Xiaojing Yan’s Chinese heritage and her experience as an immigrant. Her explorations as an artist can be viewed through a similarly bifurcated lens: the forms and landscapes are equally as indebted to the artist’s cultural identity as they are to her empathy for the natural world.

Emily Neufeld: Prairie Invasions: A Homecoming Exhibit

The work in Prairie Invasions: A Homecoming interlaces abandoned farmhouses with the history of their inhabitants and creates a moment of pause and empathy for the lives that took place in these specific sites, but also for the land that the houses are built upon. Humans are changing our landscape at an increasingly rapid rate.

Sadko Hadžihasanović: War and Piece Exhibit

Borrowing from the title of Leo Tolstoy’s historical chronicle of the Napoleonic Wars and the 1812 invasion of Russia, Sadko Hadžihasanović’s War and Piece is a similarly fragmented view of his homeland in the wake of war.
